At a glittering ceremony in the Hilton Hotel, Glasgow, last night (Thursday), Nicolson Accountancy of Stornoway were crowned “Best Small Firm” at the prestigious Scottish Accountancy Awards.
Formed a mere 8 years ago by Sue and Angus Nicolson, the firm is now the largest accountancy practice in the Western Isles.
The firm was awarded the prize for its massive growth over the past few years as well as its fantastic customer service and the its unique Norwegian tax service which is the leading consultancy in the UK.
Director Sue Nicolson expressed her delight at the announcement, “We have worked long and hard to achieve this success and it reflects magnificently on our staff and our service delivery that we have been recognised by our peers. I am overwhelmed by this award, and I look at it as another step in the growth and development of our practice.”
Her husband and business partner Angus Nicolson highlighted the economic opportunities for the Western Isles stating, “Business is out there for companies to grab with both hands, and we have seen 40% growth in the past two years – and this year too – and this is creating and securing jobs in and as we recruit additional staff to meet client demand from across the whole of the UK.”
The judges were impressed with the range and nature of the client base which covers a wide range locally as well as US and Norwegian corporations, international oil companies and over 1,000 UK companies and individuals.
